Paintings 1974–1984 was a ten-year survey of Lynne Golob Gelfman's work at the Metropolitan Museum and Art Center in Coral Gables, the museum where she had her first one-person exhibition after winning its competition award in 1974. The checklist ran to fifty-six works: about twenty-eight acrylic paintings on canvas and muslin from 1974 to 1984, about twenty-eight acrylics on paper from 1982 to 1984, and a small watercolor of 1978.

The survey traced her move from the triangular grids of the mid-1970s, painted in flecked and muted color, through looser squares and circles, to the dense, carnival-bright canvases of 1983 and 1984, crowded with arches, dots, calligraphic marks and heavy pigment. A trip to Egypt in 1980 brought arched shapes and a new linear, calligraphic element into the work.

The museum published a catalogue with texts by Jan van der Marck (Center for the Fine Arts, Miami), Arnold Lehman (The Baltimore Museum of Art), the critic Leslie Ahlander, and Juanita May of the Metropolitan Museum and Art Center. The paintings below are those reproduced in the catalogue.
