A solo exhibition of twelve paintings and works on paper made between 1985 and 1989, a decisive stretch in which Gelfman's visual language opened onto increasingly layered systems of color, gesture, and geometric structure. In the six large-scale canvases, arcs, ellipses, and faceted planes overlap and interrupt one another—lattices that seem at once grown and engineered—while recurring forms set the measured pulse from which the exhibition takes its title. Six acrylics on paper accompany the paintings, showing the same vocabulary tested at the scale of the hand.
Cadence opened in tandem with Works on Paper, 1960s–2020 at Central Fine, presented in collaboration with The Bonnier Gallery.
